Another key attraction is the iconic Glowfari, which is a nighttime lantern festival that you can catch from November to January. Tips for the Best Experience


  • It is a good idea to buy tickets online in advance, particularly during weekends and holidays, to avoid long lines and ensure entry. Note that ticket prices will vary based on demand so booking early is advisable. 
  • There is also an additional discount provided to Oakland residents,  military personnel, and teachers, but they must show proof of eligibility at entry. 
  • Also, keep in mind that all general admission guests at the Oakland Zoo must reserve timed tickets online in advance. You basically need to reserve your slot before arriving at the zoo, as this system helps control how many people are inside at once.
  • Sometimes the zoo may be closed for maintenance and renovations, private events, or holidays. It is best to check the Zoo's website for a list of scheduled closures before visiting.
  • It is best to pre-purchase parking as it is $13 when purchased in advance online, and the fee increases to $16 at the gate. Parking passes are valid for 28 days from the date of purchase.
  • If you need to change your visit date, you can request a one-time transfer by filling out the Ticket Transfer Request form at least 48 hours in advance. 



How to Get There


  • By Metro (BART)
  • A convenient and popular route for travelling via metro is by taking the Bay Fair or Coliseum BART Station, then switching to AC Transit Bus Line 46L, which stops right near the zoo's entrance. 
  • By Train
  • For the ones visiting via train, the nearest Amtrak station is the Oakland Coliseum Station. You need a short 10-15 minute ride by either taxi or bus from there to reach the zoo.
  • By Bus
  • The closest bus stop to the zoo is Golf Links Rd & Mountain Blvd, which is about a 5-minute walk away. 
  • By Car
  • You can easily drive to the Oakland zoo via I-580 or I-880 highway and follow signs to Golf Links Rd. Parking is available at the zoo, but it is charged.
