Why Visit Redwood Regional Park?

Redwood Regional Park is only a short drive from the city and is the ideal place to get away from the constant motion of the city. It is a top choice for those who like spending time surrounded by nature because of its famous towering coast redwoods, which are about 150 feet tall. There are several trails and routes here with a variety of activities for visitors of all ages including hiking, biking, horseback riding, or just taking a peaceful stroll amid the trees. Additionally, the park has a number of friendly picnic spots, including the Old Church, Owl, and Quail spots which are available for reservations or use on a first-come, first-served basis.

It's a hit with families who keep coming back to this park for its picnic areas, dog-friendly zones, and open spaces where kids can run around freely making it one of the places in Oakland to disconnect from the stress of the city without leaving it. The best seasons to visit this park are during the spring, april to june, and during fall from September to November, when the weather is just right. The best part? It's the best spot to unwind with your loved ones without spending much at all, as there's no general entrance fee, you only need to pay for parking which can be easily avoided by using public transit. It's a local favorite for a reason as it's easy to get to, inexpensive, safe and boasts a serene earthy vibe.

  • As of April 23 2025, there is now a boil water advisory in effect for the drinking water system that supplies Piedmont Stables.
  • The park is big, and has minimal to no cellular service so it's smart to download trail maps or use the AllTrails app offline. Note that the Park Office does have limited public Wi-Fi available for emergencies.
  • The trails range from beginner to advanced, so it's best to check maps and difficulty levels before starting.
  • Dogs are welcome but must be on leash in developed areas.
