As you go around the grounds, you'll discover rows of old gravestones, some weathered with age, each representing and conveying the memories of families who have been part of the local community for years.


The lawns and trees in the cemetery are well-kept and there's no entry fee to visit. It's open daily during daylight hours and is not only a resting place but also a nice spot for those who appreciate finding beauty in silence and peaceful spaces. After visiting, you can stop by nearby cafés or stores to grab some food. The cemetery is a very simple, meaningful place in the city where you can truly reflect and pay respect to Oakland's local community and past.

  • Note that restrooms may not be available on-site, so make sure to plan accordingly before arriving. 
  • If you'd like help locating a specific grave, office staff can provide a map and walk you there.
  • Pets aren't allowed and dogs must stay in the vehicle unless they're certified service animals.
  • You can also pick up the free self-guided tour booklet available at the cemetery office. It briefs and highlights gravesites, local history and tree varieties. 
  • Parking is available along the entrance road, and there's usually enough space unless a service is happening.



How to Get There


By metro

To travel by BART, you need to get off at the nearest station to 33rd Avenue which is Fruitvale. From there, you need to take a ride to the cemetery. 

By train

By bus

Several transit bus lines stop near 33rd Avenue like 14, 51A, 1T, 62, 19. From here you need to use rideshare or a taxi to get to the cemetery.

By car

You can head south on I‑580, take exit 17A for 30th Avenue/International Boulevard, then follow 30th Avenue to reach 33rd Avenue, just past Telegraph Avenue to reach the location. It is advisable to follow google maps for the best route.
