  • First and foremost, all visitors must have a ticket to enter the Museum galleries. Children under the age of twelve are admitted free of charge. However, they must have a timed ticket to enter.
  • Note that the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) offers free general admission on the first Sunday of every month. It's the perfect chance to explore on a budget.
  • Parking is convenient as the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) offers underground parking at 1000 Oak Street, accessible via entrances on Oak and 12th Streets. Rates are $5 per hour, with an early-bird flat rate of $20 for those entering before 10 am and exiting before 5 pm.
  • The garden is free of cost and open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm. It is best to check the site in case of occasional closures.
  • Visitors are permitted to take non-flash, handheld photographs for personal and non-commercial use, although some exhibits may have restrictions.
  • Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is also wheelchair accessible, and they provide lockers for bags and coats.

By metro

The closest BART station is Lake Merritt, which is simply a 3-minute walk from the museum. It is super convenient and ideal for those commuting from San Francisco or Berkeley.


By train

If you're taking Amtrak, the closest station to the museum is Oakland Jack London Square Station. From there, you need to take a quick taxi or bus to OMCA, which'll take you around 10 minutes.


By bus

Multiple AC transit lines stop nearby, like 11, 62, and NL. The Oak St & 10th St stop also falls near.

Travelling by car is convenient if you take the I-880 and I-980 roads with available parking on site.
