Why Visit Chicano Park?

Stretching across a 7.4-acre piece of land, this park features the largest outdoor collection of murals in the United States, offering visitors the opportunity to understand the Chicano community’s culture through an extravagant display of murals and artwork.

The Chicano Park came into being as a result of a twelve-day-long community protest to reclaim this land where the highway patrol station was proposed to be formed. The local artists, under the mentorship of Salvador Torres and Victor Ochoa, transformed the barren concrete pillars into vibrant, culturally significant pieces of art that you can not look away from.

The murals highlight varied subjects such as mythology, Mexican-American immigration rights and feminism. These murals are nothing less than open history textbooks walking us through the journey and development of the community.

The establishment of the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center presents exhibits and therefore offers a deeper understanding of the pieces of art. Stopping by the park on Chicano Day in April provides an enriching experience with live dance, mariachi music, and art markets for the visitors to appreciate. The Chicano Park is a unique blend of past, innovation, activism, and culture, building a single unforgettable experience for visitors.
