About Lake Chalet

Oakland's popular lakeside dining spot with fresh Californian cuisine, scenic outdoor seating, and a lively bar, right on Oakland's Lake Merritt.

Why Visit Lake Chalet?

Lake Chalet is Oakland's top waterfront dining spot, located right on the edge of Lake Merritt and is only minutes from downtown. The place has a welcoming and relaxing vibe with a touch of elegance. It is a sureshot destination for foodies, boasting several indoor dining rooms as well as outside seating that extends directly over the lake with views of the city skyline and boats drifting by.

Moreover, the restaurant is widely known for its fresh seafood, signature tacos, and hand-crafted cocktails, and while it's not exactly budget-friendly, it's worth it for the quality and overall experience. The menu features contemporary Californian cuisine with a focus on seafood, inventive takes on classic dishes, and an expansive 80-foot bar that allows you to relax and try signature Beach Chalet Ales or creative cocktails. You can additionally try their happy hour for slightly more affordable options.

Beyond dining, visitors can rent gondolas or take a stroll around the lake before or after dining. The place also lights up during golden hour and evening, offering a beautiful backdrop for photos or special moments. It's best visited between March through October with the ideal weather for patio dining or lakeside strolls. Lake Chalet also hosts live music events and monthly specials, making it a great location for both romantic dinners and group gatherings, attracting both locals and tourists all year round.
