Tips for the Best Experience


  • Tickets can be booked online in advance via their official website, especially recommended for planetarium shows, events and telescope viewings. The telescope deck is free and open from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm on clear Fridays and Saturday nights.
  • Check the calendar for special programs like First Fridays and seasonal events. 
  • Parking is free of charge and available on-site near the main entrance. You will also find additional parking available in the staff lot below the observatory complex.
  • Food and beverages are not permitted in the theatre and planetarium.
  • The Front Desk provides wheelchairs and the planetarium has wheelchair seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.



How to Get There


  • By metro

The closest stations to the Chabot, if you take BART, are Fruitvale or Rockridge stations. From there, you'll need a taxi or rideshare, as there's no direct public transport to the hilltop.

AC Transit Bus Line 53 connects Fruitvale BART to the Center. It's advisable to confirm the schedule once before visiting.

  • By car

Commuting via car is a scenic and convenient option if you take the I-580 or I-880 road and follow the signs to Skyline Blvd. Parking is also available on-site.
